Superfood Smoothie

Recently I have been researching about nutrition for seniors. Protein is the most important micronutrient for an older person. It is the building block of the body and vital for maintenance of body tissue development and repair. So I decided to share a very nice smoothie that I make; it has a really good source of protein and other essential nutrients to keep the body healthy.

In this recipe I add chia seeds, which contains antioxidants, minerals, fiber, protein and omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients play a role in supporting multiple body functions and systems.

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp of organic sprouted brown rice protein powder
2 Tbsp of carob powder
600 ml of your choice of plant based milk
1 scoop of Sunfiber (by Tomorrow’s Nutrition) optional
2 Tbsp of your choice of sweetener (maple syrup, date syrup, honey)
2 Tbsp of chia seeds (soaked in nut milk for at least 20 min or overnight). You can soak bigger amounts of the chia seeds and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days and use each morning to make the smoothie.

Method:

Add all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Serve with a pinch of cinnamon powder.

This is a great way to start the day with the right nutrients. You can add some ginger powder to assist with digestion, also use ingredients in room temperature specially in winter. Remember to increase fluid intake when having more fibre in your diet to avoid constipation.
