Recipe -- Tofish

If you like sushi, this is the dish for you. Slices of tofu are dipped in soy sauce, wrapped in nori and then battered and deep-fried into crispy, mouth-watering delights. Serve them with lemon wedges for a delicious, healthy alternative to battered fish.

  • 750g block firm tofu
  • 3 – 4 sheets of seaweed nori(each sheet cut into thirds)
  • 1/4 c soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • Enough water to make a thick batter
  • Oil or ghee for deep frying

Mix flour, salt, turmeric and water (a little at a time) together to make a nice thickish batter.

Set aside.

Cut tofu into slices (approx.10) and dip in soy sauce.

Wrap in seaweed and re-dip in soy sauce.

Coat wrapped tofu slices in batter and deep fry until golden brown.

Serve with lemon wedges, chips and salad
