Avocado Smoothie


Well this smoothie may be unusual, but you’ll also find it unusually delicious. The creamy consistency of avocados makes this fruit a wonderful sweet and it has been used as such in many countries around the world for centuries. The health benefits of avocados are well known, proven to lower cholesterol and provide a rich source of potassium which reduces the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. One cup of avocado has 23% of the Daily Value for folate, a nutrient important for a healthy heart. As it is very rich and filling this smoothie would be nice served as a sweet to compliment any Asian cuisine.

Avocado Smoothie


  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 large ripe avocados
  • 2-3 cups iced water
  • 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/ cup crushed ice
  • Extra crushed ice
  • Extra iced water (optional)


Combine the sugar and ½ cup water in a small saucepan

Bring the syrup to the boil over moderate heat and simmer for 5 minutes

Remove from the heat and allow it to cool

Cut the avocados in half and remove the stones

Spoon the flesh into a blender or food processor

Add the sugar syrup and 2 cups iced water

Blend to a smooth puree

Add the condensed milk and ice

Process again

If it is too thick add a little more water and blend again
