As the temperature drops and winter “bites”, this drink is a wonderful way to stay warm and cosy. This recipe has many variations so feel free to experiment. Try adding orange or lemon rind or fresh grated ginger for extra zest.
Warm Apple Cider
- 1 litre apple juice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 whole cloves
- ¼ tsp freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- ¼ cup brown sugar or maple syrup
Place apple juice, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg in a stainless steel saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. Cover and simmer on low heat for 20 min. Remove from heat and add lemon juice and sweetener. This is also the time to add fresh ginger and lemon or orange rind if using. Cover and allow to steep for 5 more minutes. Strain and serve with a cinnamon stick and fresh home baked biscuits.
