Sattva – A Yoga cafe based on Yoga principles
Foods dear to those in the mode of goodness (Sattva) increase the duration of life, purify one’s existence and give strength, health, happiness and satisfaction. Such foods are juicy, fatty, wholesome, and pleasing to the heart.
At Sattva we will help you to extend your yoga practice to the table by applying yoga principles to keep your body nourished and your mind clear.
Take a sneak peak into the kitchen of Sattva, and you’ll find coconut oil, sesame oil, an array of nuts and dried fruits, lots of herbs and spices, and organic herbal teas. In the fridge there’san abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, and on the counter jars of homemade jams, organic breads and wholesome baked goodness. On the stovetop there’ll be a pot of dahl or kitcheri or maybe a tasty, nourishing curry and basmati brown rice.
All these foods reflect Sattva’s quest to meet nutritional needs while honouring yogic values.
Eating is an important act for one’s yoga practice, because nourishment of the body’s tissues is the foundation for nourishment of the mind and the emotions. Imagine devoting your days to your yoga practice while feeding yourself nothing but sugar and caffeine. What effect would that have? It’s easy to see that a balanced, calm mind is much easier to achieve if you commit to nourishing your body properly, just as you commit yourself to your yoga asana, pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation practice.
A Sattvic diet includes food and eating habits that are pure, essential, natural, vital, energy-containing, clean, conscious, true, honest, and wise. The emphasis of a Sattvic diet is on seasonal foods – fruits, dairy products, nuts, seeds, oils, ripe vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and non-meat based proteins.
I’m sorry to all those coffee lovers out there, but Sattva, being a yoga food cafe, won’t be serving caffeinated drinks because caffeine is not recommended for a yoga diet. However you’ll fall in love with our extensive range of funky lattes, turmeric, blue spirilina, beetroot, cashew, pumpkin spice, chai, rooibos, dandelion to name just a few. Why not give some of these delicious, nutritious drinks a try, you might find that you like them better than coffee. For those who just can’t give it up, well….we’ll be serving decaf lattes, cappuccinos, long black…
