Kirtan is the heart and soul of meditation
Hello Friends, my name is Jiva (Jane Robinson) and I have been a volunteer mantra meditation teacher with Australian School of Meditation since the early 80’s. I have been living in Greenbank since 2002 and have met many locals from my years in our family business, “Booty Gift Shop” at the Park Ridge Shops. Another lifetime it feels, but lots of good memories.
I now have the opportunity to offer monthly Sunday morning Kirtan Meditation at the Greenbank Community Centre on Teviot Road.
It’s a morning to relax away stresses (big and little) and practice 3 traditional meditations. Yoga Breath and Japa meditation for quiet solitude, and Kirtan meditation practiced in a group. *The 3 meditation techniques are fully guided step by step, and easy to do.
Yoga breathing combines the rhythm of the breath with yoga mantra, flowing through the body and mind. It is a wonderful way to quickly become relaxed and settled- and bring the focus within.
Japa is an ancient practice to quieten and calm the restless mind.
Kirtan is listening and singing (chanting) mantra together.
Kirtan is the heart and soul of meditation, enjoyable and uplifting, and doesn’t require a beautiful singing voice. Anyone can do kirtan! It is an ancient practice that is now becoming so popular around the world. Kirtans are happening in yoga centres, in homes with friends and family, community spaces- wherever people gather to chant for their own peace of mind, and for peace to spread across the world. Together with like-minded people, chanting sacred yoga mantras to the rhythm of live music, kirtan is the perfect antidote to the pressures of life, and our community comes together in harmony.
By the practice of meditation, we can begin to find inner wisdom and seek out answers to life’s big questions. Why am I here? Is there a deeper meaning to life? Where to find lasting peace and happiness? Through regular practice of Yoga breath, Japa and Kirtan Meditation, real inner contentment grows and worldly worries begin to fade away.
Everyone is welcome- from all ages, walks of life, personal beliefs, whether it’s first time or if regularly practicing meditation. I hope everyone coming will feel real benefits and take personal calmness and insights into the week ahead. Only goodness flows from practice of meditation. I look forward to meeting everyone and sharing a Sunday morning, a cup of chai, and the gift of meditation!
