This special night will be in celebration of the beginnings of kirtan. Sri Nityananda who along with Sri Gauranga spread this wonderful kirtan movement far and wide and it is now sweeping the globe.
500 years ago, in the ancient kingdom of Bengal, two great transcendental personalities; Sri Nityananda & Sri Gauranga, appeared and freely spread the chanting of the holy names of the Divine (kirtan) throughout all of India. This kirtan tradition which is the Yuga Dharma or process of self-realization recommended in the Vedic teachings is now sweeping the globe and hundreds of thousands of people of all cultures are falling in love with it.
In the sacred writings of the sages of India, it is described; ”I offer my respectful obeisances unto Shri Krishna Chaitanya (Gauranga) and Lord Nityananda, who are like the sun and moon. They have arisen simultaneously on the horizon of Gauda [West Bengal] to dissipate the darkness of ignorance and thus wonderfully bestow benediction upon all.” [Chaitanya Charitamrita Adi-lila 1.2]
Sri Gauranga glorified Kirtan as; “The prime benediction for humanity because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon, it increases the ocean of transcendental bliss and enables us to taste the nectar for which we are always anxious.” [Sri Siksastakam 1]
Kirtan nourishes the deepest needs of the soul. Come and immerse yourself in the joyous singing, ecstatic dancing and spiritual love that kirtan brings to our lives. We’ll be celebrating ‘Indian Style’ with traditional bhajans and kirtan, vedic stories, and an amazing Indian vegetarian dinner.
