Where do I start?

At ASMY our classes are non-competitive and focus on safety,  progressing from easy to more challenging poses. If you are new to  yoga it is recommended to come along to a few easy classes to learn the correct alignment and safety guidelines before moving to more challenging classes.

Just remember to take it easy and work within the limitations of your own body and you’ll get so much more from your practice and experience the many wonderful benefits that yoga has to offer.

Interactive Alignment Workshop

This workshop is held monthly and is a great way to really get into the nitty gritty of how to do yoga.  At this workshop you will discover basic tips, advice and insights into achieving better alignment, allowing you to deepen your practice and discover more of the wonderful benefits that yoga asanas have to offer. It will be a great learning experience for both the beginner to learn how to practice yoga asanas correctly and for the seasoned practitioner to deepen their asana practice.  Next workshop Saturday 21st April 12.30am-2.30pm, regular class/pass prices, $2 mat hire, more info

Yoga Asana: Yin

Melt into our restorative yin class with this meditative asana practice. Soft lighting, mellow music and poses held for 3 – 5 minutes allow a deeper stretch and opening of the body and quiet rest for the mind. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin yoga moves beyond muscle and generally targets the connective tissues, ligament, and bones of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin helps you to slow down, listen to and be with the body.

Yoga Asana: Easy

Easy classes provide gentle stretching and breathing for every body. In this class you’ll gently loosen stiff joints and ease out aching muscles while soothing the nervous system and calming the mind.  These classes are a great way to start if you’ve never practiced yoga asanas before, or if it’s been a while since you’ve attended a class.  The easy classes are gentle, slower moving and lots of instructions are given to ease you back into yoga or start you off on the right foot! Suitable for beginners and those who haven’t been to a class for a while.

Yoga Asana: Gentle

Increase flexibility, destress and relax with this gentle flow. This meditative hatha yoga class balances body and mind while giving an all over stretch and is an ideal pick-me-up and reset for busy lives. Using the breath to focus and deepen our practice, we allow the body to open and soften at a gentle pace which calms the mind and revitalises the body. Suitable for all levels and abilities.

Yoga Asana: Hatha

Hatha Yoga classes are slower moving,  poses are held longer and the focus on deep stretching and strengthening.   Monday and Thursday classes are more challenging, but easier options are given to tailor the class to suit most levels of fitness and flexibility.

Yoga Asana: Yin Yang

This class is a combination of yin (see above) and flow (see below) to give nice balance of deep stretching, flow and strength work.  It is quite a strong class, but easy options are given.

Yoga Asana: Flow

This class is a flowing vinyasa style class using sequential movement that interlinks postures to form a continuous flow.  It is excellent for increasing aerobic fitness and strength as well as flexibility.  It is a stronger style of class and a little more challenging.  However as with all our classes easy options are given, so you can make it as easy or challenging as you’d like.

Yoga Asana: Power Vinyasa

Linking movement and breathe, Power Vinyasa is a dynamic form of asana movement suitable for experienced yoga practitioners.  This fun yet challenging class will increase cardiovascular activity, generate greater flexibility, build muscular strength and agility as well as develop focus and decrease agitation of the mind.

Yoga Asana: Energy

This is a flowing hatha yoga asana class, harmonising movement with breath to energise the body and focus the mind. It will increase your aerobic fitness, invigorate your body, deepen your asanas and increase your strength. This challenging class is suitable for students familiar with alignment and muscle control and is not suitable for beginners.
